Physician Assistant for Ambulatory Surgery Center Long Island City with Relocation Assistance if Needed

About the role

The Physician Assistant in an Ambulatory Surgical Center provides patient-centered care before and after outpatient surgical procedures. Responsibilities include performing pre-op evaluations, managing post-op recovery, prescribing medications, educating patients and collaborating with the surgical team. Depending on specialty and regulations, minor procedures may also be performed.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-op evaluations: review medical history, conduct physicals and order labs to evaluate surgical readiness
• Provide patient education: explain procedures, risks, post-op care and pain management
• Obtain informed consent and ensure proper documentation
• Monitor post-operative recovery, manage pain and address complications
• Prescribe and administer post-op medications as needed
• Conduct discharge planning: provide instructions, schedule follow-ups and address concerns
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesiologists and staff
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans and progress
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes

Required Qualifications

• Active PA-C license and specialty certification (e.g., Acute Care, Surgical)
• Surgical or perioperative experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities
• Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies
• A car and driver’s license are preferred (mileage, tolls and gas are reimbursed)

Experience and Skills

• Minimum 2 years of vascular/endovascular experience
• Strong leadership, organization and teamwork skills
• Proficient in basic computer use; EHR experience preferred
• Wound care experience is also desired

Work Environment

• Clinic-based practice seeing about 15 patients per day
• Includes vascular consults in nursing homes
• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens; OSHA training required
• Regular use of standard office equipment

Pay

Beginning at $130k

Schedule

• Day shift, Monday to Friday
• Relocation assistance available if needed
