This is a full-time, benefitted, one-year fellowship position (January 2027 – December 2027) within the University of Utah’s Department of Dermatology. The role is probationary and “at will” during the probation period.
About the role
The Advanced Practice Clinician Dermatology Fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive training in dermatology, broaden and strengthen clinical knowledge, and develop an analytical, systematic approach to diagnosing and caring for dermatology patients. Fellows rotate through general dermatology clinics, sub-specialty clinics, and the Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic. The goal is to build confident providers with effective communication skills capable of delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Obtain focused medical histories and perform specialty-appropriate physical examinations.
- Identify diagnoses and formulate appropriate medical plans and prognoses.
- Collaborate with physicians on complex patient care plans and treatments.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests.
- Perform selected invasive procedures for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes within validated scope of competence.
- Initiate and recommend pharmacologic therapies or other therapeutic treatments and procedures in accordance with approved protocols and policies.
- Comply with medical records policies, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of patient care.
- Initiate and maintain required legal records.
- Participate in continuing medical education, including specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards, and conferences.
- Counsel patients, families, and significant others about health, illness, and health maintenance.
- Assist in the collection of data for research projects.
Requirements
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
- Demonstrated knowledge of life span growth and development principles and ability to assess patient status according to department policies and procedures.
- This position is patient-sensitive and requires compliance with all associated immunization requirements per CDC standards and hospital policy, with limited exemptions for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, or ATLS may be required by the department or privileging criteria.

Pay
$70,000
Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Monday – Friday, day shift.
- Fellowship duration: January 2027 – December 2027.
