Physician Assistant – Austin Float

Job Summary

Provides primary and episodic care to patients – independently and in collaboration with other medical professionals – following standards and protocols set by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Supervising Physician. Functions as a member of the clinical team and maintains patient flow and maximizes the delivery of quality care to patients. Emphasize health promotion and/or disease prevention through patient education and coordination of care.

General Accountabilities

• Affirm patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently.
• Follow protocols which provide medical authority when such are indicated in providing care.
• Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent and non-urgent presentation.
• Selects, orders, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
• Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
• Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to laboratory, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
• Prescribes dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
• Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
• Exercises tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential patient issues and situations.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Learns computer software programs; enters and maintains accurate data and statistical information in order to consistently prepare clear and concise reports.

Job Qualifications

• Physician Assistant: Master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited program for Physician Assistants with at least 1 year of clinical experience.
• State licensure as a Physician Assistant.
• National board certification by one of the Physician Assistant certifying bodies (i.e. NCCPA).
• DEA license with no restrictions.
• Clinical experience in an emergency, urgent care or ambulatory clinic setting.
• BLS certified.
• Environmental And Physical Requirements: Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills, communication skills to deal well with employees, patients, families and Physician/Medical Providers, vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation, hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
• Physical abilities: Job requires physical ability for long-term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist.
• Risks: Job risks include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with chemicals, lifting of 30 - 40 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.
