PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Texoma Medical Center, a 414-bed acute care facility, has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Our main campus is located in Denison, Texas, approximately one hour north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and just south of the Texas/Oklahoma border. We offer major specialty services including open heart surgery and neurosurgery, with advanced resources such as certified trauma care supporting our role as a regional specialty center.

Responsibilities

• Manage health problems and coordinate age-appropriate health care for patients as part of an innovative care team.
• Function independently and under a collaborative agreement with the supervising physician, receiving administrative supervision from a clinical departmental director.
• Practice in accordance with hospital rules, regulations, and professional standards, providing evidence-based, age-appropriate care.
• Perform histories, examinations, order diagnostic and therapeutic tests, and prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
• Manage chronic patient conditions and provide patient/family education.
• Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring referrals when necessary.
• Provide direct patient care in accordance with Texas laws, regulations, and Texoma Medical Center’s clinical policies and standards.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning; order and interpret diagnostic tests; perform specialty-appropriate procedures.
• Prescribe and manage medications.
• Provide clear communication to patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation; manage time and priorities in a fast-paced clinical setting.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, clinical judgment, and adaptability to changing situations.
• Educate patients on medical standards, disease prevention, pharmacology, infection control, and patient safety.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and build rapport with diverse patient populations.
• Work independently within scope while coordinating with supervising physicians.
• Perform physical demands of patient care, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

Requirements

• Current RN licensure in the State of Texas or compact license (BSN preferred).
• Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in a clinical and/or hospital setting (three (3) years preferred).
• Current Texas Physician Assistant license in good standing; PA-C certification through the NCCPA (required for initial Texas licensure and preferred for continued practice).
• Current DEA registration if prescribing controlled substances.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certification (provided during new hire orientation if needed).
• Two years of experience in acute care specialty nursing.
