About the role
We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to join a high-acuity, 16-bed Pediatric Cardiac Care Center specializing in critically ill pediatric patients with congenital heart disease. This is a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment where Advanced Practice Providers function as primary covering providers, managing complex cardiac cases across the continuum of care.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including pre- and post-operative management
- Manage complex congenital heart disease cases, including single ventricle physiology
- Support high-acuity interventions such as open chest management, arrhythmia management, and vasopressor therapy
- Assist in the management of patients requiring ECMO (VA/VV), CRRT, and cardiac pacing (external/internal)
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Occasionally support adult congenital heart disease patients and PICU overflow cases
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Pediatric Cardiac ICU setting
- Strong knowledge of complex congenital cardiac anatomy and physiology
- Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program
- Active New York State PA license in good standing
- NCCPA certification (current)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant certification
Schedule
39 hours/week, day/night rotating shifts of 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM (13-hour shifts). Includes on-call/callback, weekends, and holidays as needed.
