About the role

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 located at the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center (HMCC) in Eagle River, Alaska. Responsibilities

  • Care for the emergent, urgent and chronic care needs of inmates.
  • Work with nursing staff 24 hours per day.
  • Act as the liaison between the correctional facility, local physicians and hospitals.
  • Prescribe Schedule II-V drugs as appropriate in accordance with State licensing requirements and the prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Some positions require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment.
  • Some positions require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.
  • Shift assignments and on-call availability may be required.
  • Some positions require application for and renewal of a DEA Registration Number with various designation(s) from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to write prescriptions for a variety of controlled substances as a government health care provider.

  • Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including, promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and/or injury prevention, and/or detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Uses machines, tools, instruments, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.
  • Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.
  • Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Additional Required Information

  • RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES Starting salary may be approved up to Step D - $5,070.00, if criteria are met.
