Physician (Anesthesiologist-Pain Management)

About the role

The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) is seeking an Anesthesiologist or a Preventive Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician specializing in pain management to function as a consultant in evaluating, diagnosing, initiating and implementing comprehensive pain management modalities including basic and advanced interventional techniques.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of the pathophysiology, neurochemical, and psychological aspects of pain management
• Evaluate patients presenting with chronic pain by completing a targeted history and physical examination and interpreting radiological studies
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures including radiofrequency techniques, spinal cord stimulator implantation, caudal and epidural blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, other upper and lower plexus blocks
• Manage spinal opioids and implantation of intrathecal pumps for pain control in chronic pain patients
• Communicate effectively with a diverse group of professional staff and management officials
• Provide educational information to Pain Clinic staff and Primary Care Providers and other Physicians regarding pain management
• Aid in the scheduling and creation of policies and standard operation procedures for the Pain Clinic
• Work flexible hours to support the Pain Clinic's needs

Qualifications

• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
• Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
• Board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology or PM&R
• Proficiency in spoken and written English

Physical Requirements

The position may require prolonged standing and/or sitting for greater than 4 hours, lifting of 30 pounds or more, repetitive stooping, bending, squatting, and carrying items from one area to another.
