About the Role

Under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT), assists with the implementation of the therapy plan of care. Responsible for delegation and direction of supportive personnel for assigned patients to enhance patient care services. Consistently communicates with supervising PT regarding scheduled patients to ensure identification of need for assessment, reassessment, modification of treatment plans, and other interventions requiring therapist direction. Participates in education of patients, families, students, coworkers, and self. Performs other professional duties associated with the care of the patient within the scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Assists the therapist in data collection including appropriate tests and measurements for initial evaluation and communicates status updates, as directed by the therapist, within their scope of practice.
• Assists in the implementation of the therapy plan of care for assigned patients, including performance of therapy procedures and related tasks selected and delegated by the supervising therapist.
• Progresses treatment techniques and procedures as the patient’s status and functional potential changes, in conjunction with the therapy plan of care designed by the supervising therapist.
• Identifies, responds to, and reports to the supervising therapist any changes in the patient’s physical/mental status and/or tolerance to treatment.
• Under the direction of the supervising therapist, coordinates the treatment program with other clinical/therapeutic services and available community resources.
• Attends appropriate clinical meetings to facilitate coordination.
• As delegated by the supervising therapist, provides patient education, including development of comprehensive and progressive home programs with instruction to the patient, family, and other caregivers to facilitate a safe and effective discharge.
• As delegated by the supervising therapist, prepares for patient discharge, including ordering or fabrication and adaptation of necessary equipment, as well as recommendations for therapeutic services to ensure continuum of care.
• Assists with direction of functional training classes and/or programs under the supervision of a licensed therapist as assigned.
• Assigns routine tasks to aides and clerical staff related to their job function in conjunction with the supervising therapist.
• Demonstrates flexibility in caseload management, including accepting coverage, and effectively manages individual, concurrent, and group treatment sessions based on patient care needs.
• Completes medical record documentation in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner, including daily documentation and charge entry using approved formats in compliance with state, federal, and intermediary guidelines, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
• Ensures care is provided under signed, valid physician orders and within insurance approval as indicated and necessary for clinical care of the patient. Ensures daily documentation is cosigned by the supervising therapist.
• Under the direction of the supervising therapist, participates in the therapy assistant student program as assigned, providing a positive learning environment for students with appropriate supervision. Attends all student lectures and begins developing public speaking skills required to facilitate student lectures.
• Actively creates an individualized professional development plan with clinical management. Identifies and initiates professional growth through continuing education, self-study, and involvement in professional activities and organizations. Applies learned information to meet the strategic objectives of the organization.
• Actively participates in patient and professional advocacy efforts, including lobbying activities, health fairs, community-level events, professional memberships, and fundraising/charitable activities.
• Adheres to discipline-specific State Practice Act and other regulatory agencies. Maintains professional licensure in good standing and completes all state-mandated continuing education requirements. Performs in an ethical manner in accordance with discipline-specific professional code of conduct.
• Understands the organization’s performance improvement methodology to improve the quality of services provided. Demonstrates awareness of organizational performance improvement initiatives and follows through with action plans. Offers feedback through staff meetings, focus groups, or direct supervisor to maximize performance improvement outcomes.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Requirements

• Current state licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant required.
• Current BLS certification.
• Must have inpatient experience.

Pay

Rate: $32.69 - $44.00 per hour
