Responsibilities
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Affords assistance to the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and procedures.
- Develops and fits adaptive devices like orthotics, mobility aids and tools based on patient disability and rehabilitation needs.
- Teaches patients/family the skills and techniques required for participation in Physical Therapy, adjusting the instruction and techniques to match the comprehension level of the patients/family.
- Reports any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and assists in updating treatment plans.
- Maintains adequate records within the medical record regarding patient responses to treatment techniques.
- Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately.
- Collaborates with physicians, through verbal and written reports, regarding patient treatment.
- Supervises Rehabilitation Technicians and Aides appropriately.
- Conducts or participates in Inservice training as needed for other hospital personnel.
- Participates in educational programs and Inservice meetings.
- Attends meetings as required.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate's degree and graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program required.
- Experience: Prior training or experience in related environment is preferred.
- Special Skills: Ability to recognize patients' individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must be certified as a PTA. Mississippi state licensure as required.
