Physical Therapist, Outpatient Pediatrics

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or D.P.T degree from an accredited physical therapy school
• Current licensure in the applicable state
• CPR certification in Basic Life Support, Level C

Responsibilities

• Adhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment through communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building
• Follow hospital and departmental policies and procedures
• Contribute to the overall quality of services and stay informed about changes in policies and procedures
• Provide patient care assessment and treatment:
  • Ensure evaluations and treatments are comprehensive, functional, and according to the Standard of Practice
  • Use sound professional judgment in interpreting evaluation results and establishing treatment plans with realistic goals
  • Encourage patients and significant others in setting goals
  • Recognize and respond to changes in the patient's physiologic state
  • Recommend the next level of care and ensure quality patient outcomes
• Supervise support staff assisting with patient care by providing direction and feedback
• Maintain accurate documentation:
  • Complete written patient evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes per policy
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient/family education, charges, departmental statistics, and ICD-10 codes
  • Maintain patient records in a systematic order and ensure documentation is legible
• Meet department financial and productivity standards:
  • Understand budgeted expectations and maintain productivity standards
  • Adjust individual schedules to meet the needs of patients and the department
• Participate in process management to optimize quality and efficiency of services:
  • Identify quality and operational opportunities
  • Participate in process management and communicate progress barriers to supervisor
  • Research and suggest evidence-based best practices to improve the quality of patient care
• Promote professional development and education of other healthcare workers:
  • Provide representation on committees
  • Conduct in-service training programs to share state-of-the-art information and enhance safety
  • Stay informed about changes/developments in the profession locally, at the state level, and nationally
  • Share clinical expertise with other therapists, student affiliates, and healthcare professionals
• Communicate effectively:
  • Communicate professionally and timely with patients, physicians, staff, and external customers
  • Respond to questions from staff and promote an open atmosphere of communication
  • Share information learned from seminars and inform supervisor of issues and resolutions
  • Communicate information with patients and families to ensure understanding
• Provide appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines:
  • Demonstrate age/developmentally specific knowledge, skills, and abilities for the patients served
  • Utilize knowledge of age/developmentally specific data when assessing patients
  • Interpret age/developmentally specific responses to treatment/activity accurately
  • Maintain competence related to age/developmentally specific patient care by regularly updating knowledge of growth, development, and the aging process
