Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients and develops and initiates treatment plans based on the evaluation results.
  • Reviews the Physician's referral (Prescription) and the patient's condition and medical records to determine the physical therapy treatment required.
  • Provides direct patient care by established protocols and patient care guidelines.
  • Documents findings, progress, and instructions to patients and caregivers.
  • Responsible for patient care performed by assistants and rehabilitation technicians.
  • Completes a written plan of care, develops goals based on evaluation findings, and develops a comprehensive program to attain goals.
  • Implements physical therapy treatment program and provides essential physical therapy treatments.
  • Communicates effectively with patients/caregivers and professional colleagues, including physicians and insurance companies.
  • Ensures timely documentation, including daily notes, weekly workers' compensation reports, progress reports, initial evaluations, discharge summaries, and incident reports.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Physical Therapy program.
  • Current Virginia Physical Therapist license, or eligibility to obtain one before employment.
  • Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience or interest in outpatient orthopedic care, including balance and vestibular rehabilitation.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans in an outpatient setting.
  • Comfortable working independently while effectively managing a diverse patient caseload.
  • Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and patient education skills.
  • Proficient with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and standard Microsoft Office applications.
