About the Role

The Physical Therapist will plan and conduct medically prescribed treatment for patients with physical disabilities resulting from disease or injury, utilizing all physical therapy methods. This role operates as a first-level professional clinician under the supervision of a Senior Physical Therapist.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, evaluate, and direct physical therapy programs/services for residents with specific physical incapacities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care facilities.
  • Evaluate residents’ physical condition and symptoms, review medical records, and complete annual and condition-change physical therapy screenings.
  • Monitor progress toward goals and adapt treatment plans accordingly.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment records, resident files, and progress notes.
  • Maintain communication and positive relationships with residents, their families, and/or health care agents.
  • Participate in discharge planning, recommend and coordinate assignment of mobility equipment needs.
  • Oversee supervision and training of Physical Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy students, and lower direct care staff.
  • Conduct new employee orientation training and ongoing training regarding Safe Patient Handling practices.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, and other professional development activities to stay current with changes in the healthcare field.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade 18 or above, eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Physical Therapist.
  • For non-competitive appointment under the NY HELPS program: Possession of a license and current registration as a physical therapist in New York State.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in long-term care.

Degrees awarded from educational institutions outside of the United States or its territories must be independently verified for equivalency.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program, and no examination is required.
