About the role

The Physical Therapist (PT) confirms and interprets physician referrals, performs patient assessments and plans and implements individualized treatment programs taking into account the patient's developmental and/or chronological age and medical diagnoses in accordance with the regulations governing the principles and practice of Physical Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Full Time position.
• Sign on bonus eligible up to $20,000.
• Provides patient care based upon physician referral and age-appropriate assessment taking into consideration the patient’s developmental/chronological age and medical diagnoses when planning/implementing treatment programs designed to achieve goals set in conjunction with the patient and/or family member.
• Carefully coordinates patient care and clinical activities through written and/or verbal communication with patients, families, therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers, physicians and other members of the health care team.
• Documents in the patient’s medical record, and completes other patient care-related forms in compliance with regulatory agencies and department/hospital policies and procedures.
• Serves as a supervisor to Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) as provided by State of Virginia licensure/practice standards and Federal regulations.
• Orients new employees and may provide guidance to volunteers, students, support, or contract staff.
• Communicates with persons who have similar or different functions inside or outside the organization. May provide problem-solving, consultation, advising or interpretation services to others. May work with outside vendors, but does not have the authority to commit for the organization.
• Access and exposure to patient information is required for the performance of the job.
• Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and provides care according to departmental policies and procedures.
• May be required to work at other Carilion facilities to meet staffing needs.

Requirements

• Education: Graduate of approved school of Physical Therapy. Bachelor's degree as Physical Therapist and 5 years of experience, OR Master's or Doctorate degree required.
• Experience: Experience in site specific level of care preferred but not required. For Home Health positions one year of clinical experience required.
• Licensure/Certification: Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy. AHA BLS-certified (from a Carilion approved program) within six months of employment.

• Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service and teamwork skills required.

Skills

• Knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development.
• Able to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
