Physical Therapist Assistant - Temporary

Temporary full-time assignment from October 1, 2026 to January 1, 2027.

Schedule

Days shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. One weekend per month required.

Pay

Salary range: $26.42 – $33.80 per hour.

About the role

Performs selected patient treatments under the general supervision of the Staff Physical Therapist and Clinical Coordinator. Prepares patients and equipment for treatment, assists with housekeeping duties, and performs other tasks as requested.

Responsibilities

• Aid in the care and safety of patients.
• Prepare equipment for patient treatments as directed by the Physical Therapist.
• Perform routine and periodic housekeeping to maintain cleanliness and order in the department/facility.
• Assist the Physical Therapist in selected procedures by monitoring patient comfort and safety during treatment.
• Supervise assigned areas to ensure security, organization, and readiness.
• Oversee technicians and patients in assigned treatment areas.
• Adhere to the APTA’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
• Maintain a patient treatment schedule aligned with department needs under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
• Communicate with patients’ caregivers regarding treatment modifications and progress.
• Treat patients of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities without bias.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
• Respect and uphold patients’ rights to treatment and involvement in treatment decisions.
• Practice ethical responsibility based on patients’ cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs.
• Perform specific physical therapy treatments under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, including home care, inpatient, and outpatient settings.
• Maintain accurate bookkeeping and charting for assigned areas, ensuring confidentiality of all records.

Requirements

• Associate degree in physical therapy or graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• State of Iowa licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
• One year of department/facility experience preferred; entry-level candidates with above-average skills will be considered.
• Must maintain Iowa continuing education requirements.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license.

Equipment & Tools

• Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, calculators, fax machines, and scanners.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions for equipment setup and patient preparation.
• Competency in operating physical therapy equipment and applying therapy techniques.

Working Conditions

• Good physical stamina required; frequent walking, standing, writing, stooping, carrying, and talking.
• Ability to lift, balance, sit, kneel, hear, reach, pull, push, handle, and turn as needed for patient care.
• Professional, courteous, and patient demeanor; neat, well-groomed appearance.
• Ability to organize time efficiently to treat the maximum number of patients.
• Works primarily indoors in a well-ventilated, clean environment with adequate lighting; some areas may be limited in space or have moderate noise.
• Occasional outdoor work with patients on uneven terrain or travel to patient homes in all weather conditions, including inclement weather.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious materials, and minimal chemical hazards from cleaning agents.

• Vision must be correctable for close and distance work, including computer screens and printed materials; requires color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
