Responsibilities
- Aid the Physical Therapist in all aspects of patient care
- Participate in care provided by a multidisciplinary team including Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) and Physical Therapists (PT)
- Under the guidance of the PT, perform therapy techniques/exercises and provide clinical care activities utilizing evidence-based practice
- Measure and track patient progress, reporting changes to the PT
- Inform patients of necessary continued care information
- Assist the PT in patient handling, treatment, and management
- Execute techniques and exercises prescribed by the PT
- Keep the PT informed of changes in patient progress
- Help assess the effectiveness of interventions
- Understand, document, and react effectively to the age-specific needs unique to assigned patients
- Ensure clients are properly trained on safely using home and work equipment
- Provide guidance to any outside client parents, families, and caregivers on assisting
- Assist clients in performing day-to-day activities
- Help patients better perform activities of daily living
- Show respect for patients, parents, center staff, and the community
- Demonstrate initiative, self-direction, program development, organization, and independence
- Implement and progress a skilled treatment plan in outpatient pediatric, orthopedic, neurologic, and balance/vestibular rehabilitation settings
- Work efficiently and effectively in an autonomous environment
- Be passionate about helping patients with vestibular, balance, neurological, and fall risk issues
- Be self-motivated with a willingness to learn
- Have competency with treatments for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with physical, sensory, neurological, or cognitive problems
- Show excellent interpersonal, time management, documentation, and communication skills
- Meet the physical demands of a practicing pediatric therapist including: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Be willing to see patients at any of our three locations
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Up-to-date Physical Therapist Assistant license in the state of Michigan
- At least 1+ year(s) experience with pediatric experience preferred
- Prefer at least 1+ year(s) working in outpatient neurological or orthopedic centers, or previous vestibular rehab experience
- Able to implement and progress a skilled treatment plan in an outpatient pediatric, orthopedic, neurologic, and balance/vestibular rehabilitation setting
- Able to work efficiently and effectively in an autonomous environment
