About the Role

The Physical Therapy Assistant, under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, provides treatment to patients, functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team, delivers patient and family education and counseling regarding concerns, plans, implements and modifies treatment procedures, and maintains appropriate documentation according to policies and current standards of practice. The Physical Therapy Assistant manages a caseload in conjunction with the supervising therapist and in accordance with agency productivity standards, and attends patient conferences and agency in-services as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care and documents treatment in accordance with physicians’ orders, agency policy, and patient needs.
• Documents appropriate interventions, approaches, strategies, materials, and establishes treatment priorities.
• Provides organized and efficient patient treatment, including advising, educating, and counseling the patient.
• Presents pertinent patient information to the supervising therapist and keeps the team informed of patient status.
• Provides appropriate skilled treatment to patients according to patient needs and within agency and payer parameters.
• Seeks and accepts assistance from team members in treatment planning and intervention.
• Accurately documents, completes, and submits daily notes and other required forms in a timely manner to prevent interruptions in patient care.
• Meets agency productivity standards and uses work hours efficiently.
• Attends and participates in agency meetings and committees as assigned.
• Appropriately negotiates the patient’s participation in treatment, treatment times, and treatment plans.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from an accredited school of Physical Therapy.
• Valid license, registration, or permit to practice in the state of agency operation.
• Current CPR certification while employed in a clinical role.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to all business locations.
• Ability to implement care plans and communicate findings or changes regarding patients to the Physical Therapist and physician.
• Ability to educate patients and their families in basic home safety and medical equipment safety.
