About the role

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works as part of a team to provide physical therapy services to clients. The PTA implements selected components of client treatments and modifies interventions to ensure client safety and comfort. This role primarily works in long-term care facilities with occasional coverage in outpatient clinics. The position requires physical exertion, including lifting clients, stooping, standing, and kneeling for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Administer treatment programs as established by physical therapists.
• Collaborate with a PT to determine and execute individualized treatment programs.
• Maintain a positive and professional approach while working with clients, co-workers, and the community.
• Document client progress efficiently in the EMR system; proficiency in computer and typing skills required.
• Evaluate treatment and progress at various stages and adjust as needed.
• Administer manual exercises, massage, or traction to alleviate pain, increase strength, or prevent re-injury.
• Instruct clients and/or families in treatment procedures for home continuation.
• Discuss treatment plans with clients, physicians, and other professionals as needed.
• Refer clients to appropriate professionals when physical therapy is not the best course of treatment.
• Administer treatments using physical therapy equipment such as hot/cold compresses, ultrasound machines, and infrared lights.
• Evaluate, fit, adjust, or repair medical support devices.
• Discharge clients when goals are met and provide follow-up care or referrals.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
• Protect clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
• Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures.
• Ensure equipment operates properly.
• Communicate effectively with individuals of all backgrounds.
• Work efficiently and accurately while maintaining client confidentiality.
• Contribute to a positive work environment.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from an accredited university.
• Must possess or be eligible for state licensure.

Pay

$22 – $32/hour
