About the Role

Under the direction of a Licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant License Applicant (PTALA) provides quality care to residents, including evaluating and treating patients, communicating with families, physicians, and other health team members, and maintaining documentation in medical records.

Physical therapy services include treatment planning and implementation, discharge planning, testing patients’ physical abilities, analyzing rehabilitation goals, and coordinating with the rehab team and other health professionals to deliver effective treatment programs.

Responsibilities

• Treat patients according to a treatment plan approved by a physician under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
• Communicate regularly with supervisors, rehabilitation team members, and nursing staff regarding patient treatment plans, progress, and prognosis.
• Review evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, 14-day progress reports to physicians, and discharge summaries as required by company and facility policies.
• Complete all required documentation for treatments prior to leaving the facility.
• Educate patient families and facility nursing staff on treatment and maintenance programs.
• Secure necessary durable medical equipment (e.g., orthoses, walkers, canes, elevated toilet seats, grab bars) to facilitate independent mobility.
• Submit billing logs and necessary information on a timely basis.
• Report any problem areas or equipment issues within the facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
• Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelines, as well as company and facility rules, policies, and procedures.
• Provide training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including supervising interns, assigning career-related tasks, ensuring compliance with guidelines, and completing required paperwork.
• Assume other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Physical and Mental Demands

• Ability to travel as required.
• Ability to bend, reach, squat, and move as required by patient treatment plans.
• Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; moving, lifting, or transferring patients may involve lifting up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to stand and/or work 80% of an 8-hour shift.
• Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions.
• Ability to operate standard rehabilitation therapy equipment.
• See projects through to completion.

Qualifications

• Valid and current License, Health Examination, TB Test and/or Chest X-Ray, and CPR certification as required by the Employee Handbook.

Workplace Environment

The job primarily involves working in a skilled nursing facility within an active patient care environment. While there are no unusual exposures, safety precautions must be taken at all times.

Pay

Salary Range: $43.00 to $45.00 per hour.
