Patient Care
- Affords physical therapists in performing rehabilitative treatment procedures and techniques.
- Closely monitors and assesses patient's response to treatment.
- Aids patients in dressing, undressing, putting on and removing supportive devices.
- Communicates recommended changes and upgrades to the primary therapist.
Pre-Treatment
- Collaborates with appropriate parties to coordinate patient treatment authorization.
- Receives authorization prior to treatment and ensures treatment commences as outlined by the insurance carrier.
Documentation
- Records the prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart.
- Updates medical records according to prescribed departmental standards.
- Completes appropriate data bases, problem lists, treatment goals, and individualized plan of care.
- Completes patient charges per department guidelines.
Discharge
- Discharges patient from physical therapy.
- Provides home-care instructions.
- Provides referrals.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintains monitoring of equipment operation and records its use and administration of treatment.
Education
- Aids in orientating and training new employees, PT-students, hospital staff, and precepts new employees during orientation.
- Trains and educates patients, family members, and care-givers in therapy principles, methods, and techniques.
Education and Training
- Associate's Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant Program required.
- Less than 1 year of work experience required.
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association required.
- PTA-Physical Therapist Assistant - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies required.

- Assisting and Caring for Others — Provides personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
- Educational and Training — Knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Problem Solving — Analyzes problems, draws relevant conclusions, and devises appropriate courses of action.
- Knowledge of Theory, Principles and Practice of Physical Therapy.
- Active Listening — Gives full attention to what other people are saying, takes time to understand the points being made, asks questions as appropriate, and does not interrupt at inappropriate times.
- Knowledge of Safety Principles in Patient Care Environment.
- Knowledge of Standards, Policies and Procedures of Denver Health as they pertain to physical therapy.
- Ability to Integrate Requirements of the Facility and/or Regulatory Agencies into Clinical Decisions and Documentation.
