Physical Therapist Assistant

About the Role

The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant assumes clinical responsibility in an assigned facility. This is a professional position with the primary responsibility of direct patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Additional duties of an administrative nature are performed as assigned.

Under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, you are responsible for following all state-specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy in-home care, adhering to the treatment plan defined by the Physical Therapist, performing only procedures you are qualified and trained to perform, and making recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Following the plan of care, instruct and aid patients in active and passive exercise, muscle re-education, gait training, functional activities, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
• Observe, record, and report to the supervising PT, nurse, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in the patient's condition.
• Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and other members of the health care team in therapy areas where they can assist the patient.
• Visit patients according to the Plan of Treatment and complete a daily note for each visit.
• Participate in developing the Plan of Treatment as needed with communication to the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Adhere to Therapy Standards of Practice in the provision of services to all patients.
• Report to the Physical Therapist information relating to the patient’s progress, complications, and/or response to treatment.
• Assist the Physical Therapist in performing procedures, tests, and complex treatments to ensure safe and effective evaluation and treatment of patients.

Requirements

• Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited institution.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the assigned State (must possess prior to onboarding and maintain).
• Ability to take direction from registered therapists and other team members to promote patient treatment and safety.
• Ability to work independently with periodic (daily or less) support and direction.
