About the role
Performs selected patient treatments under the general supervision of the Supervising and/or Staff Physical Therapist, Director, or designee. Responsible for the overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, and evaluation of supportive staff, volunteers, and students within the department or facility.
Responsibilities
- Treatment Quality:
- Ensures Physical Therapy practices align with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
- Treats patients of all ages (infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics) without bias regarding race, creed, gender, or disability.
- Demonstrates respect for patients’ rights to treatment and involvement in treatment decisions (patient-centric shared decision-making).
- Practices ethical responsibility based on patients’ cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs, as applicable by law.
- Maintains care consistent with the plan of care, including therapeutic interventions and modalities deemed appropriate by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Confers with the supervising Physical Therapist regarding additional patient needs, treatment modifications, or progress.
- Treatment Quantitative:
- Maintains a patient treatment schedule consistent with department/facility needs.
- Manages caseload, including no-shows (NS), cancellations (CXL), and reschedules, with communication to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Follows the Plan of Care established by the Physical Therapist, including frequency, progressions, and interventions.
- Ensures billing/CPT or RVU matches time spent with patients, within department standards.
- Records and Reports:
- Prepares and submits department/facility reports while maintaining confidentiality.
- Completes Discharge reports/summaries in conjunction with the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Assists supervising Physical Therapists in completing Progress Notes and communicating with referring physicians and agencies.
- Completes daily notes in a timely manner to support medical necessity.
- Prepares special reports as requested by the Director or Manager.
- Professional Status and Public Relations:
- Maintains current professional knowledge of techniques and trends.
- Attends continuing education, meetings, or special courses and shares information with department/facility personnel.
- Prepares and presents educational presentations to community groups as requested.
- Maintains positive public relations with all community sources.
- Teamwork:
- Provides coverage, volunteers assistance, and maintains workflows within the department as needed.
- Works cooperatively and refrains from negative conversations.
- Shares knowledge and insights constructively with co-workers.
- Addresses conflicts directly with the appropriate person before involving leadership or uninvolved peers.
- Is considerate of others in the work environment (e.g., breaks, noise levels, computer/phone use).
- Policies and Procedures:
- Knows and complies with policies and procedures outlined in the Orthopedic One Employee Handbook.
- Assists leadership in implementing policies and procedures as necessary.
- Actively participates in training and adheres to compliance and risk management programs.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- Preferred minimum of two (2) years of orthopedic department/facility experience; new graduates with orthopedic clinical experience are encouraged to apply.
- Must have or be eligible for State Licensure or Registration (must obtain within one (1) year or as per state law).
- Must maintain and provide verification of CPR certification, including BLS/AED training.
