About the Role

Evaluate patients, plan treatment programs, and perform physical therapy procedures to restore function, prevent disability, reduce pain, maximize potential, and improve quality of life following disease, injury, or surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and assess patient’s functional status, including range of motion, strength, reflexes, tone, posture, gait, orthotic or prosthetic fit, sensorimotor function, and wheelchair seating.
  • Develop realistic, functional goals mutually agreed upon with the patient and family.
  • Employ principles of teaching and learning to educate patients and their families in skills that promote functional restoration of mobility.
  • Perform treatment according to the established plan, utilizing modalities such as heat/cold, hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation, massage, joint mobilization, and exercise.
  • Document assessment, plan, care given, and patient response in the patient record.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, rehabilitation programs, and related activities.
  • Actively participate in case conferences, care rounds, and family meetings to progress patients toward rehab goals and discharge planning.
  • Re-evaluate patients, assess their progress, and make recommendations for discharge planning.
  • Maintain professional standards by participating in in-services and department requirements.
  • Delegate, direct, and supervise implementation of care to PTA, PCT, and physical therapy students.

Requirements

  • State of Michigan PT licensure.
  • BLS Certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy.

Preferred experience in physical disabilities and intensive care units.

Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing work situations.
