About the role

E2 Consulting Engineers, LP (E2) is a professional services firm established in 1988 specializing in engineering services including project engineering and design, federal base operations and infrastructure support, gas pipeline construction and inspection, environmental consulting and remediation, and information technology services. We are seeking a Substation Engineer to join our Pasadena office and support one of the largest electric utility clients. The position will work under the direction of a Lead Engineer and report directly to the Substation Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Perform substation physical design activities including drawings, specifications, and bill of materials.
  • Conduct careful self-checking to ensure quality of work before presenting to Lead Engineer for review.
  • Prepare computer-assisted design and construction drawings of a complex nature with neatness and minimal errors.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as conduit and bus sizing, lighting & lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis.
  • Ensure all designs conform to client and industry standards.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with lead engineer and/or project manager.
  • Utilize client and/or company information systems to track and update design activities.
  • Participate in or lead job site meetings to gather scope of work.
  • Participate in or lead responses to Request for Information (RFI) during project construction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-approved college or university.
  • 5-8 years of experience in substation design or similar with a utility or consulting engineering firm.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer Certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with substation design and construction standards for Southern California Edison.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Pay

Salary will be between $105,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • The ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day.
  • The ability to move freely for up to 8 hours per day.
