About the role

Position requires individual to direct and evaluate the learning experiences of students in both curricular and extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the district and state philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Develop purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies, engage students, and maximize time on task.
  • Employ a variety of effective teaching strategies.
  • Create an environment and lessons that are grade level appropriate to the South Carolina Physical Education Curriculum Standards.
  • Assume responsibility for carrying out the policies, rules, and regulations of Horry County Schools and other responsibilities as directed by the principal and program director.
  • Particular types of PE instruction may call for a variance from the normal dress policy.
  • Foster effective communication with parents and/or guardians.
  • Provide for the care and protection of school property.
  • Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the total school program.
  • Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students.

Requirements

  • Valid or pending teacher certification in the area of Physical Education from South Carolina or any other state.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Physical Education techniques and processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and procedure for use of fire extinguisher, first aid kit, clean-up blood-born pathogen.

Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable of South Carolina Physical Education Curriculum Standards.
  • Trained and proficient in the pedagogy of current teaching techniques and instructional delivery.
  • Possess the ability to transmit Curriculum Standards and District Objectives to both small and large group settings.
  • Proficient in the use of the Fitness Gram as a measure of student performance and parental communication.
  • Familiar with South Carolina State Physical Education Assessment and proficient in administering the Assessment to Physical Education students.
  • Cognizant of the importance of Physical activity and nutrition in the overall development of students.
  • Committed to the health and physical wellbeing of all school children.
