About the Role
To provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience needed to make progress toward educational goals. To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.
Reports to the school principal or their designee. May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers, and/or clerical assistants.
Responsibilities
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
- Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with other professional staff to assess and help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates in curriculum development programs and faculty committees.
- Sponsors student activities and performs other duties as assigned.
- Instructs pupils in a classroom using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available time for instruction.
- Evaluates pupil performance and growth using formative and summative evaluation tools.
- Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils.
Requirements
- Licensure in K-12 PE and Health required.
- Previous experience as a high school PE/Health teacher preferred.
