Physical, Earth and Forensic Science Teacher - Newington High School

About the role

The teacher is an educational leader who guides student interests and directs activities to facilitate individual development. Responsible to the principal (or program supervisor where applicable) for implementing the appropriate curriculum and instructing students according to their individual needs and abilities. As a school and district representative, the teacher collaborates with staff to enhance educational experiences and maintains open communication with parents.

Responsibilities

• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Plans daily and long-term learning activities aligned with the district’s curriculum to meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects in harmony with curriculum goals.
• Employs a variety of instructional methods and materials to meet stated objectives.
• Assesses student accomplishments regularly, provides progress reports, and completes required student records.
• Uses assessment data to guide instruction.
• Assists administration in implementing student conduct policies and maintains reasonable classroom behavior rules.
• Ensures proper care of books and school property.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Participates in staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
• Engages in the school planning and placement team process.
• Collaborates with team members to modify and adjust instruction for all learners.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
• Maintains open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Uses technology as a teaching and learning tool.
• Manages time to fulfill all teaching responsibilities, including lesson planning, conferences, professional growth, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor for efficient school functioning.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience.
• Connecticut State Department of Education Certification required. Dual certification preferred:
