About the role

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108-bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment facility for the psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18. The center features an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located near Washington, DC and other major Northeastern cities.

This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of inpatient, continuing care, and family services. This includes providing clinical support to other staff members, conducting interventions, psychosocial assessments, developing residents’ treatment plans, and conducting group, individual, and family therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the therapeutic milieu by overseeing and coordinating the delivery of in-resident, continuing care, and family services.
  • Monitor adherence to the program schedule and assist the multidisciplinary team in coordinating residents’ care.
  • Attend and assist in treatment team meetings and clinical staffing meetings.
  • Participate in group and individual supervision.
  • Communicate with unit staff regarding residents’ progress and assist with mentoring and orienting new therapists to the unit.
  • Provide admissions personnel with ongoing admissions and discharge information.
  • Participate in AMA prevention and intervention activities.
  • Complete an initial bonding session with the resident within 24 hours of admission or by the next business day.
  • Conduct emotional, behavioral, and social assessments within 7 days of admission and determine if further assessments (psychological, vocational, etc.) are needed.
  • Transfer problems identified in assessments to the Master Problem List and prioritize them for treatment.
  • With the multidisciplinary treatment team, identify measurable and time-bound treatment goals and objectives clearly related to the Master Problem List.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for assigned residents.
  • With the treatment team, identify interventions that clearly relate to treatment objectives and establish discharge criteria.
  • Complete treatment plan reviews monthly and ensure progress in treatment is clearly documented in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in psychology or a related field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Virginia.
  • At least two years of experience conducting group, individual, and family therapy using a variety of treatment modalities.
  • Ability to compose and deliver educational lectures.
  • Effective communication with other healthcare professionals, both verbally and in writing.
  • At least one year of experience treating a variety of mental health disorders.
  • One year of experience working with and/or treating adolescents is preferred.

Pay

USD $50,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
