Phone/Field Enumerator
NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association representing the elected and appointed leaders of the departments of agriculture in all fifty states and four U.S. territories. Founded in 1916, our mission is to grow and enhance American agriculture through policies, partnerships, and public engagement. Since 1972, NASDA has employed enumerators to collect agricultural data on behalf of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
About the role
As a Field Enumerator, you play a crucial role in serving agricultural producers by providing reliable, accurate, and objective statistics and information that farmers, ranchers, and rural communities depend on. You will interview farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural businesses either in person or by phone, travel to designated fields for crop counts, and maintain detailed records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, expenditures, and hours worked. Work is conducted from a home office with an operable telephone, free from distractions, and requires the use of a personal vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Interview farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses in person or by telephone
- Travel to designated fields to perform crop counts
- Maintain and deliver detailed, legible records of interviews, crop counts, mileage, expenditures, and hours worked
- Conduct work from a residence with an operable telephone, free from distractions
- Use a personal vehicle to travel for field enumerator duties
Qualifications
- Ability to multitask in an energetic, deadline-oriented work environment
- Ability to positively represent NASDA and the benefits of enumerators in all survey actions
- Ability to make crop counts in designated fields
- Ability to maintain a reliable personal vehicle
- Ability to conduct interviews in person or by telephone with farm operators and other individuals
- Knowledge of computers or iPads
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management in a fast-paced environment

Pay
$17.75 per hour plus mileage reimbursement.
Schedule
This part-time position offers a flexible schedule that may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours may be affected by weather, seasonal farm responsibilities, and community functions.
