Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with rotational weekends in Fridley, MN.

About the role

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing Point of Care Testing (POC), venous and capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children, and all related functions.

Responsibilities

  • Collects blood and/or performs POC as assigned.
  • Cleans and restocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays.
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing.
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric-aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
  • Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames.
  • Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested.
  • Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
  • Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
  • Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor.
  • Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
  • Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if out of range to group leader or supervisor.
  • Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at health fairs and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to the laboratory.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired). This includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies.
  • Regular contact with clinic personnel, patients, and visitors.

Requirements

  • 1 year of phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and clean driving record, if applicable.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects (1 to 15 pounds frequently, 16 to 25 pounds occasionally, 26 to 40 pounds seldom). Objects exceeding 41 pounds require assistance.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
  • Position requires travel.
  • Extensive use of phone and PC.
  • Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness.
  • Talking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training (e.g., medical assistant or paramedic training) preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in California, Nevada, and Washington).

Pay

Pay range: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, certifications obtained, market, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonus compensation.
