Phlebotomy Technician

Responsibilities

• Collects blood and/or perform POC as assigned
• Cleans and re-stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays
• Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing
• Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric aged patients using proper aseptic collection techniques
• Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work (stat, timed, routine) within established departmental policy time frames
• Determines the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.)
• Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents
• Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees timely to group leader or supervisor
• Sets up and maintains equipment and supplies
• Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing, as needed, at Health fairs and PSA testing sites and delivers specimens to laboratory

Qualifications

• 1 year phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections
• Keyboard/data entry experience
• Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable
• Physical requirements: lift light to moderately heavy objects, sit or stand for long periods of time, perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day, extensive use of phone and PC, fine dexterity with hands/steadiness, talking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting
