About the role
The Phlebotomy Support Technician II position at CoxHealth South involves the collection and processing of blood and other specimens as directed. This role requires proper specimen collection, including confirming patient ID, collecting specimens in appropriate tubes, utilizing venipuncture/capillary techniques, and accurately labeling specimens to ensure accurate patient results. Responsibilities also include processing specimens for subsequent testing, accessingions, updating information, and making necessary corrections to orders.
Responsibilities
- Confirm patient ID and collect specimens in proper tubes
- Utilize venipuncture/capillary techniques for specimen collection
- Accurately label specimens to ensure accurate patient results
- Process specimens appropriately for subsequent testing
- Accessions, updates information, and makes corrections to orders as needed
- Demonstrate ability to perform point-of-care (POC) testing as directed
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3 months phlebotomy experience in a laboratory setting
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Laboratory Assistant from a nationally recognized laboratory certifying agency
Preferred
- 6 months phlebotomy experience
- 1 year related experience
Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams
- Proficient in using computers and computer systems
