Phlebotomy Supervisor

About the Role

Supervises the phlebotomy of blood donors in a defined collection area. The essential functions outlined are representative of the duties and responsibilities performed within this classification and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position. Management may assign additional duties as logical to the position.

Responsibilities

• Ensures Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed, good customer service is provided, and excellent technical skills are demonstrated.
• Works with staff to optimize blood drives in specific areas to maximize the donation experience.
• Collaborates with staff to increase standards for recruiting and retaining donors, achieving the department’s collection goals.
• Provides input in the evaluation of mobile operations employees and ensures staff skills are maintained.
• Assists the Donor Services Manager with planning operational issues and developing objectives for collecting blood and/or apheresis blood components from volunteer donors.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree from a two-year college or technical school and one year of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals according to CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.
• Ability to speak effectively, present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to organize work for timely completion and delegate/supervise effectively.
• Proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and understanding English.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to perform tasks using digital technology and communication tools (e.g., smartphones, tablets).
• Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
• Ability to commute using personal transportation.

Physical Requirements

• Tasks involve light physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects and materials up to 20 pounds.
• May involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking, or standing.
• Requires manual dexterity, visual acuity, and hearing acuity.
• Extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and extended periods of standing may be required.

Environmental Requirements

• Work is performed both inside and outside, with potential exposure to adverse conditions such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements, and pathogenic substances.
• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is possible.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
