Responsibilities
- Provides quality and inclusive patient centered healthcare.
- Oversees all aspects of Phlebotomy Staff training.
- Provide technical expertise and enhance the growth of the department through areas of staff development and training personnel in day-to-day operations.
Requirements
- Collects, registers, and processes patient laboratory specimens using a variety of collection techniques, protocols, and computer systems.
- Follows rigorous patient identification protocols for all ages and levels of complexity.
- Serves patients and performs home draws at any assigned location, including Patient Service Centers, Clinics, and Nursing Homes.
- Trains new staff and coordinates other necessary training, including program maintenance and development, orientation, and direction of in-house trainers.
- Evaluates training progress and assesses staff competency. Documents and reports competency to meet regulatory requirements.
- Cohorts the retraining of current staff when ongoing errors are identified.
- Coordinates ongoing staff training and development.
- Maintains the department in technical readiness to meet the regulatory compliance standards for New York State, CAP, and any other regulatory agency inspecting the clinical laboratory.
- Ensures staff follow laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and security.
- Works with supervisor(s) and other laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
- Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the laboratory.
- Continuously assesses work processes and suggests improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.
- Participates in maintaining the department in technical readiness to meet the regulatory compliance standards for New York State, CAP, and any other regulatory agency inspecting the clinical laboratory.
- Coordinates ongoing staff training and development.

- Evaluates and implements new techniques and procedures that may be considered for process change.
Qualifications
- 2 years of Phlebotomy experience required.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of Phlebotomy operational experience preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication, word processing and computer skills required.
- Professional discretion and confidentiality required.
- Ability to work a rotation of shifts and work weekends and holidays required.
Licenses and Certifications
- PHEL - Phlebotomy Trained Phlebotomy certification or equivalent upon hire required.
