About the role
The Phlebotomist Representative II represents Quest Diagnostics within hospital systems, interacting with patients to manage their health and provide insights into important health decisions.
Responsibilities
- Draws quality blood samples from patients following established practices and procedures.
- Accurately labels and processes specimens according to laboratory protocol.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
- Administers oral solutions as per established training.
- Data entry and processing specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
- Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as data entry, inventory, and answering phones.
- Complies with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures, including safety and infection control measures.
- Assists with compiling and submitting monthly statistics and data.
- Maintains appropriate logs in a timely manner.
- Completes training courses and stays updated with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
- Affords mentorship, training, and support to new employees.
- Supports special projects and teams.
- Communicates professionally with clients to resolve or refer issues, documenting them and reporting critical issues.
- Affords assistance in implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for phlebotomy services.
- Ensures facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, advises on necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Rotates through inpatient, outpatient, physicians' offices, and emergency department settings as required.
- Accountable for sign-off of new hire initial, bi-annual, or annual training competencies.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
- May support pre-analytical laboratory functions, including specimen reception, sorting, racking, preparation, and delivery.
Requirements
- At least one year of phlebotomy experience, inclusive of heel stick, pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Qualifications
- Minimum two years of phlebotomy experience.
- Customer service or healthcare experience preferred.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects.
- Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
- Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors.
- Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
- Handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Make decisions based on established procedures and exercise good judgment.
Skills
- Quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Independent work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills, including pediatric and geriatric.

Pay and Schedule
Pay range: $23.20 - $24.90 / hour. Shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift may be applicable. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and market and organizational factors. Employees may be eligible for an annual performance bonus compensation.
