Phlebotomist & Registrar

About the role

This position combines phlebotomy and patient registration duties in a hospital laboratory patient service center.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and bedside testing
• Ensure accurate patient identification and proper labeling of specimens at the bedside
• Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and other hospital staff
• Perform accurate and timely registration of all patients accessing the laboratory patient service center
• Understand and apply knowledge of admitting/registration processes, receivables management, credit and collection laws, billing forms, medical billing regulations, insurance benefit calculations, HMO/PPO contracts, and third-party funding resources

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent (preferred)
• Completion of a phlebotomy training course or on-the-job training with at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a CAP-certified hospital laboratory (preferred)
• CPR certification (required)
• PBT (ASCP), CPT (ASCP), or equivalent certification (preferred)
• Prior experience in the medical field (preferred)
• Thorough understanding of clinical laboratory procedures
• General knowledge of medical business office practices
• Strong communication skills
• Basic understanding of business application software
• Ability to maintain calm temperament under stressful conditions
• Good math skills and deductive reasoning
• Proficiency in general office machine operations

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
• Extended periods of standing, walking, and use of stairways
• Exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases
• Extended periods of sitting and extensive data entry
• Possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases
