Phlebotomist- Part Time

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood and/or outpatient body fluid samples and cultures from newborns, infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatric (birth-110 years) inpatients and outpatients as well as Emergency Room patients.
• Collects adequate and correct blood specimens by arterial, venipuncture or micro technique.
• Correctly identifies the patient before the blood specimen is drawn and correctly labels all specimens.
• Shows concern for and understanding of the patient and promotes the comfort and well-being of the patient while performing collection duties.
• Deals with patients from whom blood specimens are difficult to obtain with patience and persistence.
• Sorts and processes specimens received in central specimen receipts area of the department.
• Maintains orderly and timely flow of specimens to the technical areas.
• Performs many clerical duties such as filing, faxing and maintaining logs.
• Uses the computer.
• Projects an image of professionalism in appearance and conduct at all times.

Requirements

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Effective 01/13/2014 must have certificate for phlebotomy from a CLSI approved program.
• Hand writing must be legible and must be computer keyboard literate.
• Must have CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
