About the Role
Primarily responsible for specimen collection procedures, including but not limited to, venipuncture and capillary draws for patients in the nursing home and home phlebotomy areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary draws on geriatric, neonate, and pediatric patients
- Use micro-collection and butterfly collection techniques
- Obtain and interpret patient information to assess needs
- Maintain a customer-focused approach in stressful situations
- Demonstrate a confident and professional manner with coworkers and the public
- Work safely with infectious and/or hazardous materials
- Transport phlebotomy supplies as needed
- Participate in on-call scheduling and mandates as required
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Successful completion of a Clinical Phlebotomy rotation and/or six (6) months experience in phlebotomy (including micro-collection and butterfly collection on geriatric and neonate/pediatric patients)
- Proof of certification required if experience is less than six (6) months
- Valid NYS Driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Working Conditions
- Normal heat, light, and safe working environment with occasional exposure to mildly unpleasant physical conditions
- Schedule flexibility required, including weekend and holiday rotation
- Shift hours: 5a–1p or 6a–2p
