About the role

As a Laboratory Phlebotomist, you will perform collections of blood samples and specimens efficiently and appropriately following hospital and department standards and policies. Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, you may also perform routine technical functions, CLIA waived analyses, and quality control. Your commitment to service, safety, and professionalism will contribute to a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
  • Draw blood specimens from patients using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
  • Label specimens accurately for identification purposes and enter specimen data into the computer.
  • Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
  • Assist with clerical duties, including answering telephone calls.

Requirements

  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Graduate of a Phlebotomy Course required; additional 6 months of experience preferred.
  • If phlebotomy program has not been completed, one year of experience in a medical laboratory or college coursework in biological/chemical sciences is required.
  • Six months of computer keyboarding or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of current hospital phlebotomy experience and 1 year of outpatient phlebotomy experience.

Schedule

PRN shift - must have availability on days, including some weekends.
