Overview
The basic function of this position is to perform rudimentary laboratory duties, including blood collection from patients of all ages, CLIA-waived testing and other specimen collection, maintaining phlebotomy supplies, understanding insurance requirements for laboratory testing, completing specimen paperwork, and basic scheduling.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Completion of a phlebotomy course preferred
- Certification for breath alcohol testing and drug screening preferred
- Valid CPR certification required by the end of the first week of employment
- Previous computer experience required
- Previous phlebotomy skills for collecting samples from patients of all ages and types preferred
Candidates must successfully pass Listening Skills and Data Entry assessments during the interview process.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all federal guidelines and clinic policies and procedures, including laboratory, drug and alcohol testing, bloodborne pathogens, chemical safety, administrative policies, and corporate compliance
- Apply the Minimum Necessary Standard when accessing protected health information
- Practice within scope and current standards of care
- Assist with various aspects of diagnostic testing, including obtaining and/or preparing specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results
- Perform miscellaneous CLIA-waived testing
- Depending on clinic, perform EKGs/rhythm strips, breathing treatments, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, and place/remove Holter monitors
- Adhere to strict quality control policies, procedures, and manufacturer guidelines
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to quality processes
- Achieve quality standards
- Assist with ordering, care, and maintenance of department equipment and supplies
- Support the clinic’s overall financial performance
- Complete all required paperwork to accompany specimens for testing via computer entry
- Participate in the orientation and/or phlebotomy training of personnel as directed
- Assist the clinic in meeting quality and patient satisfaction goals by providing outstanding service and compassion while completing phlebotomy/lab tasks
- Demonstrate support for and participate in accomplishing team goals and objectives
- Perform other related work as required or requested
