Overview
The Phlebotomist I obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing. They also obtain needed supplies, verify patient identification, prepare skin sites, perform venipuncture and skin punctures using aseptic techniques, label specimens, and transport them to the laboratory for analysis. This position works independently and collaboratively, performing clerical and computer duties related to the laboratory, and ensuring timely specimen collection and routing.
Qualifications
- Education: High School/GED
- Skills/Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, solid computer skills (proficiency with Microsoft software), strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail-oriented.
- Licenses/Certifications: CPR Certification through the American Heart Association, Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT).
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 6 months in a team-oriented environment or customer service role, completion of a formal structured phlebotomy program or 3 months' full-time phlebotomy experience, experience with an electronic medical record system like Epic, ability to maintain composure under pressure, positive, professional attitude and demeanor.
Pay
Actual pay for this position will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity, with an expected range of $17.66 - $19.63 per hour.
