Phlebotomist I

Overview

The Phlebotomist I obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing. They verify patient identification, prepare skin sites, perform venipuncture and skin punctures using aseptic techniques, label specimens, and transport them to the laboratory for analysis. This role requires maintaining professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians, and performing clerical and computer duties associated with the laboratory.

Qualifications

• Education: High School/GED
• Other Skills/Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software; strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail-oriented.
• Licenses/Certifications: CPR Certification through the American Heart Association; Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT)
• PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 6 months in a team-oriented environment or customer service role; Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months' full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent; Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic; Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
• Experience: 6 months in a team-oriented environment or customer service role; Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months' full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent; Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic.

Pay

Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. The expected pay range for this position is $17.66 - $19.63/hour.

Schedule

This is an Hourly position.

Training

Training is 6 weeks.
