Phlebotomist Full-Time

Job Summary

Obtains specimens, identifies, accessioning and distributing them within department standards and hospital policies and procedures. Phlebotomy, clerical and courier functions as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Collects specimens from patients in a manner that supports the guest relations policy of the hospital.
• Using 2 identifiers. Identify, accession, and distribute samples within department policy and procedure.
• Prepares samples properly for testing by reference laboratory in appropriate fashion. (ie: DHL, Airborne, Fedex, US Mail, etc.)
• Ensures that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volume of testing.
• Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and department policies and procedures.
• Participates in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis.
• Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills. Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
• Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
• Performs general clerical duties, including filing, answering phones, greeting all customers, distributing patient reports.
• Provide courier services as directed by supervisor to outside accounts, utilizing private or corporate owned vehicles.
• On call as directed. Respond to all calls within a 15-minute time frame.

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
