Phlebotomist - Full Time - 6a-6p - Rotating Weekends

About the role

The Phlebotomist II performs the duties of a Phlebotomist I plus additional responsibilities designated by the Section Supervisor. They assist the Laboratory Section Supervisor and perform tasks in the Supervisor's absence. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs Phlebotomy Technique in a professional manner.
• Presents the Lab in a positive light to the public.
• Correctly performs routine venipuncture and micro-collection techniques.
• Discerns Phlebotomy Techniques according to patient conditions.
• Follows all safety guidelines to ensure patient and self-safety.
• Works well with other departments to coordinate special collections.
• Delivers clinical specimens efficiently and effectively to the laboratory.
• Operates a centrifuge properly and understands proper technique according to specimen requirements.
• Interacts with other departments in a positive manner to resolve issues with clinical specimens.
• Accurately performs drug screen collections following chain of custody protocols.
• Assists in training new employees or students.
• Directs clinical training to enhance learning and achieve specific objectives.
• Contributes to Quality and Productivity management in the department.
• Determines if problems are system failures, knowledge deficits, or behavior deficits and identifies remedial actions.
• Prioritizes work to meet turnaround requirements.
• Provides suggestions for quality improvement in the Laboratory.

Requirements

• Licensure or certification: Successful completion of a certificate in phlebotomy through an approved certification organization.
• Experience: 3 years of phlebotomy experience including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred: Licensure or certification preferred, preferably through organizations like ASCP, National Phlebotomy Association, American Medical Technologist, National Performance Specialist, or National Healthcareer Association.
• Preferred: Additional educational requirements or experience preferred.

Skills

• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Manual dexterity, problem-solving, and following detailed instructions.
• Ability to perform under stressful emergency medical situations.
• Proficient computer skills necessary to operate computer systems used and Microsoft Office products.
• Good communication skills; both written and verbal.
