About the role
The Phlebotomist is responsible for receiving patients, gathering patient registration information, ordering tests, generating specimen labels, and escorting patients to phlebotomy services. This role performs phlebotomy on all patient populations and handles semi-technical and clerical tasks including specimen receiving, sorting, data entry, record retrieval, filing, typing envelopes, and responding to telephone inquiries for results, testing, general information, and call routing.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and reports to the Phlebotomy Supervisor.
Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Every third weekend and holiday coverage
- On-call coverage required
- Day shift
Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy on all patient populations
- Receive and register patients
- Order tests and generate specimen labels
- Escort patients to phlebotomy services
- Handle specimen receiving, sorting, and data entry
- Retrieve and file records
- Type envelopes and respond to telephone inquiries regarding results, testing, and general information
- Route calls appropriately
- Maintain organized working conditions, even in stressful situations
- Work independently, prioritize tasks, and make independent decisions
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
- Six (6) months direct phlebotomy experience or completion of an 80-hour clinical rotation, preferably at Cooley Dickinson Health Care (CDHC)
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills
- Competency in phlebotomy skills/competency checklist by end of introductory period (or position will be forfeited)
- Clerical experience including medical terminology, preferably in a laboratory setting
- Reliable transportation for assignments outside of the hospital

Pay
Pay range/grade: SC2C26. At Mass General Brigham, base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors. The provided range is an estimate based on minimum job qualifications.
