This role supports the Laboratory's mission and vision by providing excellent customer service to all laboratory clients.
Responsibilities
- Performs phlebotomy tasks as assigned, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks on patients of various age groups.
- Attends to the safety and comfort of the patient, ensuring respect, courtesy, privacy, and caring.
- Handles equipment and disposes of sharps and biohazardous waste according to standard safety practices.
- Follows AIDET practice (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).
- Assembles supplies and equipment, and identifies patients using two forms of unique identification.
- Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, or heel sticks at bedside, in the nursery, and in outpatient areas.
- Obtains stat requests over the phone, beeper, or directly from nursing units, and performs them punctually.
- Answers pages promptly and labels/stores blood as required.
- Disposes of needles and sharps properly and maintains a clean working area.
- Verifies or cancels specimen collection in the computer following established protocols.
- Checks uncollected lists in the computer for completeness of work.
- Collects blood from patients of all age groups and picks up routine requests other technicians cannot respond to.
- Maintains required records and logs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED/equivalent, higher education accepted, or a minimum of five years' full-time experience in a related healthcare field/reference laboratory setting.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy Program preferred; or five years' full-time experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant (actively drawing blood).
- Minimum of 2 years' phlebotomy experience on all age groups.
- Previous exposure to Laboratory and Laboratory terminology.
- Must have a minimum of one year of experience performing phlebotomy.
Pay
The minimum rate for this position is $16.50 per hour. The final rate of pay will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. This rate does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.

Schedule
Per-Diem position with hours from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, including rotating weekends.
