Responsibilities

• Collects blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary from patients.
• Performs EKG, pulse oximetry, and point‑of‑care testing on inpatients and outpatients as required.
• Performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques.
• Reviews requisitions and physician orders to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and meet medical necessity guidelines.
• Prepares Advance Beneficiary Notices (ABN) for tests that do not meet medical necessity guidelines and obtains required signatures.
• Performs EKG, pulse oximetry, and point‑of‑care testing procedures, including associated quality control and maintenance of instrumentation.
• Processes specimens: centrifugation, pour‑off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging.
• Provides essential patient data and insurance information for specimen registration; may create registration for outreach specimens in the Hospital Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) system.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with successful completion of a recognized phlebotomy training program, or prior documented experience performing phlebotomy.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of employment.
• Maintenance of annual BLS competencies.

Pay

Hiring range: $20.32 – $38.17 per hour (based on a full‑time schedule of 40 hours per week). The final offer may vary based on scheduled hours; compensation for part‑time or reduced schedules will be prorated according to scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Schedule

Evening shift: 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm (8 hours). Scheduled hours: 40 per week. Work every other weekend and every other holiday. May be required to work and travel to other locations and campuses as needed.
