Phlebotomist - Evenings

Job Duties

• Phlebotomists are responsible for collection and procurement of blood and human specimens in the clinical setting.
• This role is an important component of patient experience, and the individual is expected to collaborate with clinical counterparts to provide a safe environment that promotes the best possible outcomes.
• Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to the Clinical laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
• Demonstrates expertise in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing.
• Exhibit strong problem solving skills.
• Understands the criteria for specimen acceptability and rejection.
• Functions effectively in a team environment.
• Works under the leadership of Phlebotomist III, Preanalytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other Laboratory Leader and escalates issues accordingly.
• Possess critical thinking skills to adjust to changing work conditions.
• Carries out responsibilities in an independent and accountable manner in all assigned care areas.
• Functions as an autonomous end user of relevant Geisinger business applications and tools.
• Performs collection of specimens in the Acute, Post-acute, Clinic and Field Service areas as needed.
• Mentors students and new employees.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years-related work experience.
• Initial and annual competency via Learning Management System which includes an exam and direct observation checklist.
• Fosters a collaborative approach to delivering patient care, with effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstration of individual and team accountability, and practice of sound judgement and decision making.
• Inventory management as required and directed by site or regional lead.
