About the Role

The Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and capillary puncture for blood specimen collection on all facility patients with accuracy and skill, as directed by their supervisor and in accordance with industry standards. They conduct bedside test analysis and collect non-blood specimens to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment, playing a crucial role in the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture for blood specimen collection
• Conduct waived/moderate complexity testing while maintaining instrument QC and preventative maintenance
• Stay up-to-date on policy and procedural changes and attend continuing education programs
• Distribute specimen collection supplies and communicate patient concerns to supervisors
• Ensure timely completion of labs and maintain accurate lab records
• Document all invasive procedures and patient refusals in medical records
• Comply with standard safety policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information
• Exhibit excellent customer service and attention to detail
• Demonstrate competence in providing developmentally appropriate care for the patient population
• Work as scheduled, including holidays as required

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Documented successful completion of a Phlebotomy course
• Prior experience in a correctional setting preferred
• Unrestricted current certification or registration in state of practice where required
