Phlebotomist - Clinic

The Lab Phlebotomist – Ambulatory performs venipuncture, skin puncture, EKG, point-of-care testing, and patient registration in an outpatient setting. They ensure specimen quality by verifying patient identification and labeling, and process various blood samples, including complex procedures like blood cultures and specialized kits. Responsibilities include collecting blood from 50-200 patients daily, performing EKGs with GE MAC 5500 HD, and conducting point-of-care tests such as iStat and urine screens. They handle patient registration, enter lab orders into the system, transcribe external orders, and troubleshoot test or instrument issues. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification within 30 days, and six months of phlebotomy experience or completion of a training program. Skills required are excellent communication, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, attention to detail, and adherence to organizational policies. They participate in proficiency testing, maintain competency, and complete continuing education to ensure quality and compliance.
