Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, using standard equipment such as vaccutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes, and butterfly needles.
- Confers with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explains procedures, allays fears, and elicits cooperation.
- Prepares, processes, labels, and stores patient specimens and samples according to established procedures.
- Maintains inventory of supplies; stocks supplies on carts and hand trays.
- Performs quality control procedures to maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
- Complies with safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards and practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED.
- Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: NA

- Knowledge of blood processing and handling procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant clinical and patient care regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Knowledge of infection control and sterile procedures.
- Interpersonal skills to allay patient fears and interact with staff.
- Ability to perform standard phlebotomy procedures and techniques.
- Ability to comply with clinical protocol, specifications, and procedures.
- Ability to complete and maintain documents and records.
